Matthew Shaw
Vice President
Construction & Program Management
By happenstance, in the summer of 1997, Matthew Shaw started his aviation career when a college professor connected him with a colleague for an internship with Northwest Airlines at Detroit Metropolitan Airport on the Midfield Gateway project, later to be named the McNamara Terminal. The next five years set the foundation for his career which spanned working for two additional airlines and living in Orlando, FL, Anchorage, AK, and Seattle, WA.
His 27-year career has spanned a range of design and construction projects for airlines and airport tenants including everything from minor ticket counter improvements to major terminal renovation and expansion projects, and luxury lounges. He has also supported the business side of aviation engaging in airport/airline use agreements, facility lease agreements, and other business-critical efforts.
His interest in aviation started like most, looking up at the sky in his backyard and contemplating the wonders of aviation.

What Do You Love About This Industry?
I love to travel and being a part of creating the traveling experience is motivating and exciting.
What is the best part of your job?
The team of individuals I not only lead, but support.
What is your work motto?
I can’t fix what I don’t know is wrong. Trust but verify. Lead by example.
What is your favorite snack or food?
My mom and sister’s Christmas sugar cookies.
What would your perfect weekend look like?
Sitting on a beach in Hawaii, or pub in Ireland.
What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?
Engraving plaques and mementos at a jewelry store while in high school.
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
Cartoon voice overs.
If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
Abraham Lincoln, Lou Holtz, or Bobby Knight.
Do you follow any sports teams?
There’s only one, NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL!
What or who has been your biggest influence?
My mom… and siblings.
